Those accountants who are Qualified by Experience (QBE) are often overlooked in the finance recruitment market; partly because no proper definition exists as to what a QBE accountant is and sometimes because a recruitment agency does not promote the virtues of this particular type of accountant.

Normally Qualified by Experience accountants are those who have begun study and not finished their courses, yet who have worked in positions and gained experience from roles which require the expertise of someone who is qualified. This can make them just as much, if not more, suitable for a position.

As diversity assured recruiters we do not make any judgments as to why the candidate did not complete their studies, but ensure that we provide you the client with a clear understanding of why a particular QBE accountant should be considered alongside either a Part Qualified at a certain level or qualified accountant.

There is often some reticence on behalf of the client to take a QBE accountant on. Sometimes clients feel they may lack the intellectual ability; sometimes it is felt that they lack drive. Salaries for QBE accountants can vary. Sometimes they mirror those of their qualified partners, other times they are slightly lower, and once again this offers the client a number of options if budgets are tight.
